Need techier friends...

Untitled Untitled_2 So I ran into this awesome and beautiful art thing via Deep Sea News. I'm thinking there has to be a way to get this to appear on a chumby. I need techier friends. And then a chumby.

More bragging

I spun this!

Img_0472 Img_0477 Img_0501

I love it! There are about 67 yards of it. I think I'm going to use it to make a coil basket. I have some laundry line already stashed away for just such a purpose and I think it would showcase this yarn beautifully. Plus I might actually use a little basket and I can't think of anything else I could make with 67 yards in hot pink that I would actually use....  Thank you thank you thank you Jacey! My mom has expressed an interest in learning to spin, so once she gives me her color choices, you can expect another custom order from me.

Belt sander? Check!

Img_0495Yay! A wonderful member of my weaving guild and fellow librarian let me come over and use her husband's belt sander right after work today. Just look and those lovely smooth finished ends:

It's the little things

Img_04891 So I am super proud of these warp sticks. I know they don't look like anything special, but I bought 4 pieces of 10 foot trim and chopped them down to 28.5" pieces and sanded them with 100 and then 210 grit and it only took me 2 terribly large and painful splinters to realize I should be wearing gloves while I'm sanding so recklessly. I don't know if I've mentioned it here before or not, but one of my retirement dreams is to have a huge wood shop. (The other one is to have a crazy multi-room train basement.) Cutting and sanding these buggers is one of the most satisfying things I've done in a while. What I really need is a belt sander to finish off the ends. They're really sloppy because I was too lazy to get out a saw so I cut them with pruning sheers. If I don't get a bite from my weaving guild I might see if I can use the one at my college or at a local shop, since I also have mild aspirations to take some woodworking classes...

My tangled warp

Img_0270_2 Img_0324_3 I had intentions of hurrying up and getting this warp off the floor so that Mashti would stop running through it and B would stop hiding behind it when Mashti was chasing her, but I've been flitting around, cleaning my craft room, finishing spinning and plying some of my fiber from Insubordiknit, making cookies, etc. So here are some progress shots.

I got the back all knotted on. I lined up all the ends nearly perfect. While this is what the instructions say to do to avoid loom waste - the instructions are WRONG! If your ends are only a little bit off, but lying next to each other nicely, let them be. Making them perfect just means you have to keep adjusting the whole length of the yarn. In this case all 11.5 yards of it. I knew this already, but did it anyway since I figured I already had such a mess. But I'm combing through it slowly but surely.

2 years!

Look what Shawn surprised me with at work for our anniversary! Birds of paradise (or as I like to call them "those crazy attack bird flowers" - usually followed by me making what I imagine to be an attacking bird noise and motion) are my favorite! Apparently they're super fancy. I had no idea since the first time I saw them was basically as shrubbery all over Los Angeles. Thanks love!

How unglamorous

Which Discworld Character are you like (with pics)
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Carrot Ironfounderson

You are Captain Carrot Ironfounderson of the City Watch in the greatest city on the Disc -  Ankh-Morprok! A truly good natured, honest guy, who knows everyone, and is liked by all. Technically a dwarf, but only by adoption. You'd rather not be reminded that you are the true heir to the throne, but that does explain why people naturally follow your orders!

Home sick.

Img_0419 I'm out of commission today. I think (hope?) it was just something I ate, but it's one of those never venture far from the restroom kind of days. I got a little bit of extra sleep after trying to be at work and then running home. Then I spent the afternoon setting up my MyFolia garden and drinking lots of fluids. Vegans - I'm returning to the fold. I always had a sensitive stomach growing up, but I hardly had any stomach problems while I was vegan. I've had bad reactions from cheese before, but nothing like this. And I have red spots on my face besides the other issues. A quick and dirty google job suggests milk allergies. Luckily this is a pretty easy fix. No more cheese. (Since that's the only dairy product I had snuck back in.) And what this really means is no more Papa John's cheese sticks, since that's about the only time I have cheese. Although after last night and today, I think I'll be stearing clear of all pizza resembling items for a loooooong time.
