Squee!

Untitled So the Asus is announcing their 9" EeePC tomorrow! I've been holding out hoping it would come out before April when I want to have one by to use for conferences. I've been coveting an EeePC since before Christmas, but I had already put in for a digital camera. I've been debating back and forth on which model, which color, etc. etc. I'm hoping that the announcement of the 9" makes the price on the other models drop, in which case I'll probably go for the 2G Surf in lush green. I had also been debating about getting the 4G model with the camera, but then I realized I didn't really have anyone to video chat with, so what's the point in spending an extra $100? I don't really expect the 9" to be in the price range I'm willing to pay for a glorified pad of paper with some internet capabilities.  Plus I think it's going to come with Windows and one of the other things I thought would be fun about the EeePC was that it's Linux and I've been craving to do some playing around in that arena but hadn't gotten around to wiping my old decrepit laptop. Squee!

Science bliss...

Cern So I think my need to be a librarian at Fermilab may be replaced with Cern now that they're getting closer to being up and running. Not to mention this Day in the Life... I at least need to go on the tour! I now have a new dream vacation! Goodbye Sanrioland, hello particle physics!

Need techier friends...

Untitled Untitled_2 So I ran into this awesome and beautiful art thing via Deep Sea News. I'm thinking there has to be a way to get this to appear on a chumby. I need techier friends. And then a chumby.

Home sick.

Img_0419 I'm out of commission today. I think (hope?) it was just something I ate, but it's one of those never venture far from the restroom kind of days. I got a little bit of extra sleep after trying to be at work and then running home. Then I spent the afternoon setting up my MyFolia garden and drinking lots of fluids. Vegans - I'm returning to the fold. I always had a sensitive stomach growing up, but I hardly had any stomach problems while I was vegan. I've had bad reactions from cheese before, but nothing like this. And I have red spots on my face besides the other issues. A quick and dirty google job suggests milk allergies. Luckily this is a pretty easy fix. No more cheese. (Since that's the only dairy product I had snuck back in.) And what this really means is no more Papa John's cheese sticks, since that's about the only time I have cheese. Although after last night and today, I think I'll be stearing clear of all pizza resembling items for a loooooong time.

This 'n' that...

I've got some photos that have been sitting around on my desktop that I've been meaning to share.

A fancy knot I made from Time to Weave. Add a fancy stick and it's a hair thingy.

The Omnipresence of Lewis Carroll

I don't know how often it is that I literally gasp, but goodness Imbrium!

Dsc04691

Shawn can vouch for me. I gasped. Time slowed. I was in awe. The yarn is of course lovely and I'm totally going to use it to make myself a pair of socks. I hear wonderful things about Cascade Fixation and the colorway is perfect, but do you see that book? I was so mesmerized I couldn't be bothered to take a decent yarn photo at all. This book is stunning! So Lewis Carroll #1 - O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! This has absolutely moved to the #1 spot on my reading list.

B loves her toy too!

Dsc04695

I have 2 other celebratory things to share.

Shawn and I passed our Wing Tsun test into Student Grade 1 today! Go Team!

Lastly, I am particularly proud of myself for figuring out how to have the RSS feeds from my various del.icio.us tags display properly in the wiki at work, despite the wiki trying to thwart me by not allowing my javascript or supporting RSS 1.0 (which is what del.icio.us uses). Yahoo! Pipes saved the day.

Now if I could just share that bit of joy with someone who wouldn't look at me like I'm reciting bits from Jabberwocky...

Want!

41ckujz0al_ss500_ "Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type."
